Beneficiaries
The Country Fair and Hay Show combine their efforts into one non-profit making organisation. We retain a small amount of ongoing funds to finance the next year’s events and give all our other profits to deserving causes, activities and charities with the emphasis on supporting those taking place in and around Rothbury though we sometimes give to causes further afield in Northumberland and occasionally elsewhere in the north east and U.K. All profits made by the Hay Show are specifically targeted at benefitting those activities supporting children and families.
We had less money than usual available to donate in 2011 (due to the cancellation of this year's Fair) but nevertheless we gave £500 to Help for Heroes, £1,000 to St. Oswald’s House Hospice for children and young people and also supported Dr. Thomlinson’s Middle School in Rothbury with a grant for their poultry rearing project and Kevin Dawson of Northumbrian Fly Fishing with a grant for his brown trout rearing project with local schools.
In 2010 nearly £5,000 was donated to a wide variety of causes including:
- The Great North Air Ambulance
- Rothbury and Coquetdale Youth Project
- Useful Vision North East
- Farm Crisis Network
- The Upper Wansbeck & Coquetdale Red Squirrel Group
- The Rothbury Highland Pipe Band
- St. Oswald's Children's Hospice
- Nunnykirk School
- Rothbury Village Cricket Club
- The Upper Coquetdale News Group (for producing 'Over the Bridges')
- Northumbria Army Cadets (Rothbury Detachment)
- Upper Coquetdale Film Group
- John Harrison for agricultural development work in Malawi
- Friends of Thropton Play Field
- Rothbury House
- Belsay Scout Group
- British Heart Foundation
- The United Reformed Church of Rothbury
- Special Care Babies at Wansbeck General Hospital
- and we are also assisting 'The Gate' pub with renovating their bar furniture for community use.
By now we have raised over £100,000 in the 26 years since we held our first events. It's amazing what you can accomplish if you just keep trying!
If you are involved with a project or group in need of funds for something special, please contact us and we'll see if we can help you. Obviously we can't help everyone, but our committee will consider each and every application.
