Welcome to the Simonside Fair website
Making a big noise!
Simonside Country Fair made a cheerfully noisy return to the local scene in mid-August 2012 after last year’s cancellation. The air around Forestburngate fairly crackled with all kinds of exciting and enjoyable countryside sounds; guns from the clay-pigeon shoot, the yapping of hordes of terriers, enthusiastic barking from the agility dogs, birds of prey screeching as they swooped past the watching crowds, Highland pipes skirling, dancers twirling, sheep bleating, Northumbrian pipes lilting and steam engines whistling.
A thoroughly good time was had by all and, to cap it all, that rare object, the sun, emerged in time to light up the afternoon for everyone.
Visitor numbers held up well and whilst towing chains had to be brought out once or twice for the heavier trade vehicles, the show field at Forestburngate near Rothbury had largely dried out by the time the crowds arrived for the afternoon. The Fair committee would like to thank all the volunteers, sponsors, traders, judges, display teams and supporters who help to make this much-loved event a great day out in one of the most beautiful parts of Northumberland – and hope to see them again at the next Hay Show and at next year’s Fair.
The next Hay Show will be held on: Sunday 10th February 2013
The next Simonside Country Fair will be held on: Sunday 11th August 2013
